Wacky Day 2016

Here are a couple of photos from the Wacky Day that the student councillors organised for the last day of school. Gold coin donations were fundraising for a school long jump and sandpit toys. Thanks to all the students who got involved and made the day a huge success. And thanks to the parents who came in for the Katwalk!!

Welcome to Room 2 Matapu

Welcome to Room 2 Matapu School for 2016!
My name is Miss Boshier and I am new to Matapu School. This is my first year teaching and I am looking forward to teaching the year 5 and 6 students at this fantastic school.

We have a lot in store this term, starting off with the Life Education Programme visiting Matapu School this week (16-18 February). Room 2 will be focusing on the question 'How can our feelings influence the way we act?' This is a great introduction to our Inquiry topic this term of Health.

Matapu School also starts training for athletics, with Kaponga athletics just around the corner.

And finally, this Thursday (18 February), there is a School Get-Together BBQ evening at 5.30, where everyone is welcome, BBQ meat provided and the pool will be open for swimming. This is a great event to mingle and meet new families, teachers and the principal. Hope to see you there.

This week we have been learning about flight. We have made paper planes, helicopters and parachutes. It has been amazing learning about air pressure and how it helps things fly. The thing that amazed us the most was that an aeroplane needs to have a heavier weight at the nose or the wind will catch it and make it loop-de-loop and fly back then crash.

Writing Recounts

Check out the cool writing we have been doing this week. Our goal is to use a full stop at the end of each sentence and use capital letters at the beginning of a sentence or for a name.
